There are few experiences in life that can compare to finally getting the house of your dreams. Our homes serve as the stage upon which the drama of daily life is performed. They provide a safe haven for our family, introduce us to new neighbors and friends, and watch after the things we hold most dear.

It’s possible that the sheer amount of things that need to be done in order to realize your goal of buying the house of your dreams will leave you feeling overwhelmed and anxious. But there is no need to be concerned.

You will quickly be able to sign the papers and move your boxes through the front door if you only follow a straightforward checklist.

Know What You Can’t Live Without

Create a list of everything you’re looking for in a house or apartment. If you are a part of a pair, it is important that you each maintain your own list.

When you have finished compiling your wish list for the acquisition of a home, proceed to examine each item. Ask yourself, “Is this something that I really need in order to enjoy life in my new home?” in order to make sure that you are making the right decision.

The next step is to get rid of everything that you are certain you can do without and be completely pleased with your life.

The Tough Decisions

It is now time to put the wish list in order of priority. The top two things on your list should be those things on which you will not make any concessions, given that life without them would be unbearable for you. For other people, that can mean having a kitchen fit for a gourmet or having room for a garden.

The two items at the bottom of the list should be the ones that you are willing to make concessions on.

A Critical Early Step Toward Buying Your Dream Home

Now, examine your partner’s home purchasing desire list and compare it to your own. Anything that appears on both of your lists is a priority and ought to be put to the top of the order as soon as possible.

It is inevitable, however, that there will be matters on which each of you will need to reach an agreement; for this reason, I have included some “bargaining chips” at the bottom of the list. For example, you may say something like, “I’ll give you the garage in return for the fireplace.”

It’s Not Set In Stone

When you really start looking at houses, this list is going to vary, which is something that can come as a surprise to you. It’s possible that while looking at a house, you’ll notice something that wasn’t on your radar back when you were making the initial list.

It is highly common for some purchasers to state that a particular feature in a home is an absolute necessity for them, even though the home they end up purchasing does not include the item in question.

You shouldn’t treat this list as if it were written in stone, but you should let us know if anything changes.

When you are confronted with a wide selection of homes to look at, the wish list can be an effective tool for reducing the amount of mental anguish you experience.
It also makes it easier for your real estate agent to maintain focus and avoid wasting time by showing you houses that aren’t a good fit for what you’re looking for.

You have just completed the first step in ensuring that your new house will provide you with at least the majority of the things on your wish list. That home can be found over there. You can bank on it.
